A New Level of Raw

March 4, 2018

It’s been a few years since I have updated this blog. Been experimenting with cooked food. The results? Not great. Eczema is no fun. And I also have occasional bouts with gout. Never give up, right? Since I was able to essentially heal myself of CLL back around 2000, I figured that eczema and gout should be easy! So the other day while searching on Google, I stumbled upon a bunch of You Tube Videos posted by Dr. Robert Morse. ND. Very inspiring! I love his story. Maybe you will too. But essentially, he is promoting a Raw Diet that emphasizes fruit. The more fruit the better. He says we are basically frugivores and should ideally eat like the primates, which are our closest relatives. He’s OK with eating greens, salads, and nuts etc. but he says that if your goal is to heal and be the most alive you can be, then try to eat 80% or more fruits, berries, melons, etc. These will clean your organs and thus provide more energy. So out goes the meat and dairy too! My downfall. These foods create too much acidity which taxes the system to have to deal with it. We need to eat mostly on the alkaline side like our monkey friends do! He also suggests certain herbs and such to assist in the initial detox.

Anyway, at this point in the long running experiment, we are starting to follow Dr. Morse’s suggestions. I suggest that you watch a few of his videos as he tackles questions sent in by his fans who are trying to heal one thing or another. If you have a health issue – and who doesn’t? – Then watch and learn from this wise man. He also weaves in his views of spirituality in between discussions. Love that! He is real, tried and tested. I think you will love his approach and philosophy as much as I do! If not then just walk on down the road. Here’s a good introductory video on “The Great Lymphatic System.”

Steve’s Buckwheat, Seed, Gluten Free Crackers

Steve’s Buckwheat, Seed, Gluten Free Crackers

Soak for 1 hour:

  • 2 cups whole raw almonds
  • 4 cups buckwheat groats (can use packaged coarse Kasha )

Buckwheat groats are gluten free seeds from a plant related to rhubarb. The outer husk is pulled away and the grain-like fruit is harvested and eaten. Buckwheat provides complete protein, including all the essential amino acids. Available from Bobs Red Mill.

Place in a bowl and soak for ½ hour:

  • 2 ½ cups raw sesame,
  • 1 ½ c sunflower seeds,
  • 1 cup whole flax seeds,
  • ½ cup chia seeds,
  • 1 cup pumpkin seeds

In a food processor grind:

  • 1 cup Nutritional (Savory) yeast
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • 2 cups raw red bell peppers chopped
  • 1 – 2 Cups oinion
  • 7 gloves garlic
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp Oregano
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Cumin to taste
  • Add soaked and drained almonds and buckwheat
  • Optional but good! I usually add a cup or two of left over vegetable pulp from juicing carrots, celery, etc. Otherwise you can also add any vegy like corn, or zucchini, etc.
  • Process to smooth

Transfer to large bowl and add the drained soaked seeds –I sometimes process these also, not as fine as buckwheat mixture.

Mix all with 1 cup ground flax seeds or ground almond.

The goal is to produce a fairly thick sticky texture. So add water if too thick or if too thin, add some additional ground nuts like cashews or just more ground flax, etc. to thicken.

Spread the mixture very thin on parchment paper sheets and dry (12-18 hours in dehydrator)

If you do not have a Dehydrator, you could alternatively lightly dry-bake them in an oven at a very low temperature of about 125’ This takes about 6 hours per side.

Store in Airtight containers.

Warning they are addictive.

Delicious Raw and Cooked

April 21, 2015

20150421_170059 (Small)Steve has been studying all manner of healing books and come up with new combinations of herbs, supplements, and other important nutrients, and while he has been on that quest, I have been more and more interested in energy medicine. I have had wonderful healing sessions with a Body Talk practitioner and listened to a Winter of Wellness seminar online where Donna Eden gave a presentation on the value of Energy Medicine, so I bought her book and her Energy Medicine Kit. I also am going to take a one day seminar in Body Talk, Last evening I listened to an interview with Dr. Gabriel Cousens, and though his commentary about reversing aging was compelling.20150421_165946 (Small)

As I was reading the manual in the Energy Medicine Kit, Steve informed me that he was making a raw veggie medley with the spiralizer. Zucchini, carots, white baby turnips, red bell pepper with arugala on top, and doused with a tomato, onion, garlic, mushroom sauce sauce that added a little heat to the dish and was absolutely delicious.

On Again, Off Again…It IS a Journey!

March 30, 2015

If you have been reading our BLOG, you will note that we both were on a cleanse at the end of January. It’s a couple of posts down, so I won’t reiterate. However, what happened after was that I thought I was going through a detoxification with plenty of coughing and unable to lie down without coughing fits. We went to our acupuncturist, M.D., and I told him I wouldn’t be able to lie down for the session because of the cough/detox. He told me I had a virus, not detoxification.

Long story short, it was this yucky thing that has been going around and lasted a month. As a result, I was eating the way I used to…all my great intentions to stay on quality raw food vanished, and I could feel myself slipping into bad habits and not feeling great. So last night after a barbecue with steak, grilled veggies and ice cream with gluten free brownies for dessert…oh, and a cocktail before…suddenly my tongue feels weird and a sore erupted right in the middle of it. Bled for over an hour, and that just infuriated me.

I shook my fist in the air, cursing the powers that be that kept sending these obnoxious body issues, and went to bed. In the middle of the night, I was awakened by a message…and it was about the need to return to a raw food diet. This time, I heard it with a new sense of appreciation. Years ago, I was given insights that formed a booklet called Seeds of Awakening. However, when the inner guidance talked about the importance of eating Living Food, I stopped listening.

It is amazing about us humans. We won’t listen until we have no choice. I got up at 3 AM and found a couple of books on the shelves about raw food lifestyle and started to read them…not just out of curiosity, and this morning I made a smoothie and had a wonderful chopped veggie salad for lunch. I worked a little in the garden, cleaned the house, did the laundry and then decided to take my blood pressure to see whether I needed to take BP meds or not. Lo and behold…after my Life Food morning breakfast and lunch, the BP was down to normal range!!! This is another confirmation to me that a mostly raw food diet is essential for optimum health….so we are off the the market to get plenty of veggies and to get back on track with our dehydrating living crackers and other goodies!

So now the proof will be in how long I sustain this. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, but hopefully the road to health will prevail!! KJ

Super Juice Me! The Power of Juicing

February 9, 2015

I watched a documentary last night about juicing and the amazing changes it makes to the body. The video is being shown for free through Feb. 15, 2015…so if you read this in time, take a look. As a result of seeing the effects on the participants of the 28 day juice workshop, I made a super smoothie this morning with spinach, cucumber, a kale leaf, dandelion greens, ginger, mint, lemon, a date, mangos, bannanas, blueberries, gogi berries, hemp and pumpkin seeds…all in the Vitamix, and had enough for us to drink this morning and more for this evening. Here’s the link to the documentary.

A Cleanse and Fast leads Back to Raw Food

January 31, 2015

Steve and I began this journey in 2010. As you scroll down to the bottom, you can travel with us through the many iterations of our investigation and participation in the raw food lifestyle. We went for a time back to a more normalized diet, off gluten, and finally ended up with more of a paleo approach. Recently we both embarked on a Fast…Steve through a colon cleanse fast and me through just a plain old liquid fast that was for seven days. I had been reluctant to do a fast because of contrary information, but was coached by my acupuncturist M.D. who assured me that a fast was a good thing and not to be feared. He suggested I use it as a spiritual retreat, and told me the importance of going into the fast slowly, recommending that I not take any medication while doing it. I countered with my fear about stopping blood pressure meds, and he told me to monitor my BP daily and see what came up. He bet it would be lower.

The fast was so much easier than I thought it would be, and as I embarked on it, I was sent an e-mail suggesting a very insightful teacher, Matt Kahn, who has loads of free video lectures on youtube. While I watched one of his talks each day and proceeded with the fast, I found myself becoming almost bouyant energetically with a feeling of lightness that I hadn’t felt in years.  I’m not an overweight person to begin with, but I could tell that my gut was in need of attention, and the Fast seemed to bring about a lot of beneficial changes. The funny thing to me was that I was never hungry. I drank watered down veggie juice, lots of water, and strained veggie broth at night. My one diversion was a cup of tea each day. When I prepared for the fast – a day of only veggies before the first day – I also took my blood pressure. I was taking my medication faithfully daily, and was curious. My starting point WITH meds was 176/70. Hmmm…that was high. Okay…so on to the Fast. Each day I took the BP and there was a drop of 20 points by day 4, so I decided to stop taking the meds and see what would happen. The next two days, the BP was 10 points less than before. On the fifth day it had dropped 40 points from the starting number and on the following day it was 129/64! To say I was amazed is an understatement.

This drop in blood pressure is something I was told would happen on a raw diet years ago when we started the journey. However, it didn’t. Insteady it got higher. However, when I told that to the doctor who coached me on the Fast, he said that often happens AT FIRST and that then it gradually goes down. Wish I’d known that then! This whole thing has been an amazing journey. I appear to have lost a lot of weight, but that has not been my intention. It’s the internal sense of weight that is important to me and the clearing my body of foods that are not meant to heal and nourish, but to appeal to addictions. It is amazing how food has become an addiction to most of us. We don’t even recognize how seductive the pull is and how we slide down the slippery slope of “just one snack,” “just one drink”, “just one fun journey to a fast food restaurant”….on and on. It can be the pull of the overgrowth of yeast that calls, or parasites, excess bacteria…who knows. The key is that when we want to be as clear as possible, we need to choose a journey that supports the body, not hinders it.

I don’t want to fall back into old patterns. As I make this journey a full integration of my mind, body, and spirit, I think it’s possible. As I recognize my body as an incredible conscious being that I am wedded to throughout life, recognizing that it is as much God as I am and all life is, I have a different attitude. I have been speaking to each cell as though they are the most wonderful team on the planet – that I love them and respect them and want to feed them what is important for optimum health.

We’ll keep you updated on how things unfold in this portion of the journey, and always appreciate your sharing your own experiences as well! KJ
